The many lives of the "Tramway da Cantareira" #2 steam locomotive
By Peter Manning with Historical Record by Nicholas Burman
Published by Camden Miniatures Steam Services
90 pages, A4 size landscape format, card cover spiral bound
This is the latest in Peter Manning's "Anatomy" series, and in the same format as its predecessors. The book covers 100 years of the history of a tiny mixed traffic locomotive working its long life hauling passengers, sugar, limestone and cement on the narrow (60cm gauge) lines in Brazil.
A single locomotive built be Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1911, Baldwin No. 37399 was constructed for the Cantareira Tramway in the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The book includes 150 of Peter Manning's usual superb drawings of this locomotive, plus 20 photographs of the prototype. There are numerous sub-assembly diagrams from various aspects, shown in both complete form, and as cut-aways showing the interior workings. Nicholas Burman has supplied details of the the history of this little locomotive, nwhich worked for three different railroads over the course of its life.
